Scheuten was set up in 1950, and for a long time focused on flat glass processing. The company’s development paralleled the expanding range of applications of glass. In 1970 Scheuten became one of the first companies to manufacture insulating glass. The product range was extended to include laminated glass (1983), tempered glass (1990), coated glass (1995) and fire-resistant glass (2007). With its own float-glass production facilities in Moustier, Belgium (2001) and Osterweddingen, Germany (2009) Scheuten controls the entire production process – from sand to sale. Scheuten Glass is one of Europe’s top three independent glass-manufacturing companies and operates in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and France.

Since 2002 Scheuten has also focused on the development and manufacture of solar modules and high-grade solar energy systems. 2003 saw the takeover of solar module manufacturer in the German city of Gelsenkirchen and 2006 witnessed Scheuten’s opening of an ultra-modern factory for the manufacture of Multisol® modules and Optisol® special modules. Scheuten aims to operate across the whole quality spectrum, from the silicon to the energetics stage. The company is investing heavily in the future. Many millions are being invested in the solar cell business on the basis of revolutionary new thin film technology. Manufacture of this thin film system is due to commence at a new factory in early 2008. The solar energy market is growing at the rate of around 30 percent a year.

Scheuten’s head offices are established at Venlo in the Netherlands. In anticipating worldwide growth in solar energy systems, Scheuten, with its ambitious programme of innovation, investment and globalisation, is poised to enter a new dimension. The growth scenario for both solar and glass, coupled with a strong corporate identity, is central to the integration of Scheuten Solar and Scheuten Glas into a powerful worldwide group.
