Scheuten Projects

The 4th Gymnasium is the first energy-neutral high school in Amsterdam, and the triple insulation glass supplied by Scheuten (800 m2) makes an important contribution to this. Not only because of the low U value of 0.7 W / m2K, but also because of its excellent sun protection properties: The G value is only 26% at a light factor of 53%! The use of much natural daylight optimizes a healthy indoor climate inside the building.

The windows manufactured entirely at Scheuten in Venlo fulfill in one element multiple functions in terms of thermal comfort, optimal light accessibility, acoustics, (fall through) safety and design. Also in large sizes up to 4 x 2m! All hardened glazing had undergone a heatsoak test.

Functional and yet aesthetic: The special Scheuten Colorsafe enameled glass in various colors also ensures a recognizable and lively character of the façade that fits well with the function of the building and the liveliness of the 800 students going to school. Extra blank glass is used with double silkscreen printing in three different colours. The windows are fitted with a so-called bed hook profile, with which they are hung onto the facade.

With the majority of the 900 votes cast, the 4th Gymnasium rightly won the public award at the Dutch Building Prize 2017. Praiseful words were for the energy-neutral character of the building and the recognisability of the yellow, orange and red grains of both transparent and colored enamelled glass in the facade.
